Where Social Media and PR Meet by by Jeff Barrett

When it comes to content, there are no accidents. Most videos or pieces of content that go “viral” follow a formula intentionally or unintentionally.

Perhaps a great example is the “Double Rainbow” video. It went from thousands of views over a couple months to millions of views in days when it appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Not every video or piece of content follows such an exact or linear path but there are common elements. While content can thrive digitally, traditional media is still a beneficial tool to reach the masses.

If digital content benefits from traditional media then that means it requires having relationships with decision makers at various media outlets. That’s public relations. Social media is not a billboard, it’s a conversation. Public relations is about leveraging relationships to frame and position that conversation.

NEW Google has used Earth and Maps to tell tales of unfolding tragedies

Google has used Earth and Maps to tell tales of unfolding tragedies and soldiers fighting for our country. Now its opening up those tools to the public, allowing users to build what they're calling "Tours" through Google Earth. Tour Builder was released in honor of Veterans Day and it allows users to create narratives tied to points on a map. The process is pretty simple: you drop a marker, add some text, photos or videos and you're on your way. As you piece together your tale, dropping pins, you can pull the viewer down into Street View or fly to a particular angle on a 3D landmark.
While the release of Tour Builder was inspired by Google's work on projects like Map The Fallen and VetNet, it obviously has much broader application. Whether it's spicing up your typical vacation slideshow or building a presentation to teach students about the Civil War. Check out the video demo after the break.

After only three years of selling discounted products online, NoMoreRack.com Inc. is on track to bring in $300 million in e-commerce revenue in 2013, three times last year’s total of $100 million, says CEO Deepak Agarwal.
Investors are taking notice, as the e-retailer secured $40 million in new funding this week, on top of $12 million it raised in November 2012. Investors are fond of NoMoreRack because it’s growing fast, Agarwal says, but also because it’s a lean operation that relies more on technology than it does manpower. So it’s very profitable, he says, though he wouldn’t disclose specifics.  read more....
